Palmetto Bay is a vibrant village with a community focused on family and enjoying the beautiful location. The village is located directly on Biscayne Bay and near Biscayne National Park. Only a half an hour away from downtown Miami, Palmetto Bay strives to support its growing community rooted in raising families in building businesses. The village merges rural charm with urban sophistication, offering a place for quality living and growth.
Palmetto Bay was incorporated in 2002, but the push to create a village community began in 1992 after Hurricane Andrew. When many residents were left without power and water, the community wanted its own representation and worked for five years to gather support and resources. This lead to incorporation, successfully establishing the village of Palmetto Bay. The main push to create the village was to improve the safety, parks and recreation services, public areas, and basic services.
The two main focuses in the village today are community safety and the parks and recreation area. The village is assigned their own Miami-Dade officers for law enforcement in the area and the village works to maintain 24/7 dispatch, which keeps the crime rate low. The parks and recreation areas have seen the most development with the expansion of the park system from three parks to five, and the addition of the public library.
The Palmetto Bay community is known as Tree City USA and Play City USA, for their use of extensive tree canopies throughout the village and an active tree planting program. The Play City USA name was established because of its dedication to growing their parks service. Palmetto Bay also strives to be on the leading edge of green initiatives with LEED-certified buildings, buildings with green design and construction. There are a variety of energy saving features in many of their public buildings and the village is proud to be certified in green practices and education. Palmetto Bay real estate is some of the most attractive in the Miami area, offering luxury single-family homes.
The village of Palmetto Bay is an ideal destination for those looking to live in a community that values greenspace and rural living while mixing in urban amenities. This community works hard to deliver to their residents from basic necessities and services to withstanding weather and staying on the leading edge of green technology. Palmetto Bay is a unique community that used the disaster of Hurricane Andrew to re-evaluate their village, took steps to become incorporated, and continues to add value to their growing community.
